New Museum > Background > Ideas competition 2009
In April 2009 the Natural History Museum arranged an open design competition, where everybody could make a proposal for the design and contents of a new museum. You can watch movies from the launching of the ideas competition here (in Danish). The competition had more than 120 participants from both home and abroad.
The winning projects in the open ideas competition were found by the end of 2009 and the total amount of prizes of DKK 950,000 was awarded. Because of the many proposals received the jury had a very qualified basis to work from and ended up awarding and buying a total of ten proposals. First prize went to architect Claus Pryds who later formed a team with Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects in the subsequent and decisive project contest.
